"The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods."
Psalms 24:1‭-‬2
The Earth Day is a global environmental movement marked on the 22nd of April every year. We celebrate the Earth Day by appreciating and respecting the natural world. `

The Negative impact of human activity on the climate and the environment has increased tremendously. This has led to so many environmental hazards, crisis, diseases, and conflicts. Climate and environmental pollution are now alarming and becoming uncontrollable. It is therefore our call to respond to Eco-injustices and to make conscious efforts to preserve the earth.

The Student Christian Movement (SCM) of Nigeria this year is actualizing part of the objectives of her strategic plan which has to do with enlightenment and advocacy to her members and the general public about Social issues

The Inter-Church, National and International Affairs Department of the SCM is saddled with this responsibility and has decided to carry out Social Media Engagement to mark the World Earth Day with the goal of raising awareness about mankind’s role in protecting our natural world. We, therefore, beacon on our movement, partners, and the public to join the Renew Our World Campaign Nigeria to act this week and beyond.

Earth Day events range from river and drainage cleanups to invasive removals, environmental cleanups, creating awareness about single-use plastic, air pollution such as smoke, burning of fossil fuels at high temperature, etc.

With social distancing in place for many of us this April, Earth Day has gone digital. Virtual events like environmental lectures and films will take place on Earth Day (Wednesday, April 22nd) instead. Of course, social distancing does not mean that you cannot go outside and enjoy nature if you do so responsibly!

Amidst the global pandemic that has engendered a total lock down of activities in all the countries of the world, Nigeria without exception, many people, particularly people whose feeding is defined by their daily hustle, have found it difficult to keep the soul and body together.

As part of her corporate social responsibilities, the  leadership of Ogere Community Development Council deem it appropriate to relief her residents by sharing food substances. About 2000 pieces of food varieties such as; Semovita, Rice, Garri etc were distributed to the households on Sunday 12th April, 2020.

The singular action sparked the joy of Ogere residents where women were seeing beaming with smile and murmuring thanks.

To see to equal distribution, the council constituted a committee chaired by Dr. Olasunkanmi Sola Mustapha (SOM) and his subordinates who had embarked on sensitization and awareness campaigns on the upcoming gesture and the mode of distribution - that was to ensure every inhabitant of Ogere Land was informed.

During an exclusive interview with Divine Generation Media, the Chairman expressed his feeling of positive impression about the process and the testimonies of the people of the coordination and the sufficiency the relief materials which reached all the households. "We thank God for this initiative and especially for raising both national and international donors. We couldn't have done this if not for the support we received from those philanthropists", said the Dr. Mustapha.

He continued, "It would be a sin not acknowledging the persons whose hooping contributions metamorphosed into the actualization of the vision. The list is long but I have to mention amongst others; Dr. Olatunde Agbato, Dr. Olayinka Agbato, Araba of Ogere Remo, Otunba Dayo Onabowale, Prince Lekan Oyegunwa, Com. Ayo Abudu and his group. The work was easier as these persons without contestation keyed into the vision immediately they received our letter and started sending their donations. It is our prayer that God replenish them".

     OCDC COVID-19 RELIEF COMMITTEE

When asked if the action was staged momentarily, the Chairman, noted that the committee has begun another plan, and has reached out to well-to-do individuals for support in other to carry out the second batch of the distribution soon. Ever since, Ogere Community has been a cynosure to her neighbours.
